June 18, 2004 Opening of the Donald Groves Building
of the American Numismatic Society

The
American Numismatic Society (ANS), founded in 1858, is Manhattan’s
second oldest museum. The ANS has been moving its collection to 96 Fulton
St. in lower Manhattan and will be open to the public in the summer
of 2004. The new headquarters will have completely renovated educational
and research facilities as well as an expanded library on two floors.
The ANS’s exhibition Drachmas, Doubloons and Dollars: The History
of Money is on display at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 33 Liberty
Street until 2007. This exhibit includes over 800 examples of the Society’s
noted collection of coins, bills and other forms of currency worldwide. w The
