2001/2002 Quarter Boards Now Available at the ANS

The American Numismatic Society is proud to announce the arrival of the new 2001/2002 Quarter Board. The 1999/2000 quarter board was a huge success that the ANS hopes to repeat.

The new board is the second in a series of five. One side of the board provides storage spaces for the ten quarters minted in 2001-02 from both the Philadelphia and Denver mints. The other side of the board features a short illustrated history on the design of the American dollar, from the pewter Continental Dollar issued in 1776 to the golden Sacagawea Dollar issued in 2000. The first board, now out of print, featured the development of the quarter in the United States.

Continuing though 2008 the United States Mint, Department of the Treasury will produce circulating commemorative quarter dollars with reverses emblematic of each of the 50 states. The coins will be struck at the rate of 5 different quarters per year by both the Philadelphia and Denver mints. They will be issued in the order in which the states ratified the Constitution or were admitted to the Union.

On the initiative of ANS fellow, Harlan Berk, the ANS, American Numismatic Association, Professional Numismatist Guild and the U.S. Mint developed these quarter boards to promote public interest in coins. Mr. Berk hopes that ANS members will request bulk orders of the boards to distribute them to local schools, coin clubs and other institutions. Mr. Berk says, “It is crucial that we popularize the history of coins and get more young people interested in numismatics. The new quarters are an excellent opportunity to increase public interest.”
