about the lecture

Jerusalem has been a sacral site for three millenia, the focus of worship for three monotheistic religions. Numismatic images of Jerusalem, widely circulated and iconic, have consequently symbolized and represented the beliefs and aspirations of millions. Among these was Mark M Salton whose lifelong interest in coins and medals was founded upon a highly refined knowledge of religion, languages, history and art. An interpretive survey of Jerusalem's numismatic iconography will be presented in his memory.

Ira L.
