NEW! -- Library Contest
The Society's Library, which houses one of the world's most comprehensive collections of numismatic literature, presently numbers some 100,000 items. These include books, periodicals, manuscripts, photographs, pamphlets, auction catalogs, and microforms, all of which are cataloged.
In addition to numismatic works, the Library includes a strong reference collection and a wide selection of non-numismatic periodicals in the areas of archaeology, art history, economic history and other disciplines.
Monday - Friday: 9:30 am-4:30 pm.
Weekends: Closed.
The Library is closed on weekends, national holidays, the day after Thanksgiving, and closes at 3:00pm on some Fridays before holiday weekends. Please note: Visitors may only access the Library when a member of staff is present. Appointments to use the Library during regular hours are not generally necessary. However, visitors are strongly recommended to check with Library staff before visiting. (Email: library at numismatics.org)
The Library of the ANS maintains non-circulating collections. Much of the Library material is arranged on open stacks. All materials must be used within the ANS premises.
The Library acquires items relevant to its mission through purchase, gift and exchange. Each month, the Library displays these new arrivals in the reading room. A short list of these acquisitions can be found here.
Regular exhibitions of items from the Library collection are on display. A sample of items currently on display can be viewed through this virtual exhibition.
The Society's Librarian is Elizabeth Hahn, whose responsibilities include administration, reference, and acquisitions.
