Proper Citation Format

When citing materials in the ANS Archives, the following general rules should be followed:

I. In Publications

Format:

Item identification, date (if known), collection name (if appropriate), box number, folder number, item number (if appropriate), Archives, American Numismatic Society.

Example(s):

Letter, Edward T. Newell to Howland Wood, January 5, 1930, box 6.2.5, folder 2, Archives, American Numismatic Society.

Memorandum, Sawyer McA. Mosser to George C. Miles, January 5, 1960, box 10.5.5, folder 20, Archives, American Numismatic Society.

II. In Loan Exhibition Labels and Catalogs

Format:

Item identification, date, collection name (if appropriate), box number, folder number, item number (if appropriate), Archives, American Numismatic Society, donor name (if appropriate).
